I stayed at Breathless Cancun Soul for the first time in July 2024. It’s an adult-only resort in Cancun, with a party vibe. It’s not all party though, I think it’s a good mix!
We checked in two days before Hurricane Beryl hit Cancun so some of the services weren’t available during our stay. I’m not holding this against the hotel in my review, they had no control over the weather. The main lobby is where guests check in unless you are booked in Xhale Club.
Xhale Club check-in
We upgraded to the Xhale Club oceanfront room. When you check in they take you to the Xhale Club lounge where you meet with the concierge to check in. There’s a bar and some snacks in the lounge as well. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much information at check-in, but the friends we were with filled us in. They were repeat guests here.
Our rooms were ready so we headed upstairs. There are elevators just for this tower, you enter your floor and the screen tells you what elevator to get on. It’s pretty cool technology.
The hotel
Breathless isn’t all party. They have the Xcelerate pool on the mid-level rooftop. That’s where the champagne parties are and they usually have a DJ. I thought it was a fun atmosphere the one afternoon we tried it. They have a quiet pool on the Xhale rooftop but it’s only for guests who upgrade to the Xhale Club level. The ground floor pool is a mix, it was quiet one day but a party the next. All three pools have a swim-up bar.
At night they have the main lobby bar which is usually hopping! They also had music outdoors in the plaza area near the ground-level pool and the nightclub, After Dark, which opens about 10 PM most nights.
The hotel has artwork all over the lobby with very unique installations.
The rooms
The rooms are a big selling point here. They are nice rooms, most have great oceanfront views and lots of storage! I never did figure out all the light switches, but they have mood lighting (of course). The display says WOW or has a Heart symbol depending on the mood.
The showers are open-concept, so sharing a room with a friend is not easy. There is a shade that comes down if you want, but there’s also a mirror so I don’t know how much privacy the shade actually gives you.
I’ve never seen so much storage though! Lots of closet space and drawers everywhere. The safe was big enough for my laptop. They also have room service boxes so they can deliver food without entering your room.
The food
We got to try three of the restaurants for dinner. My favorite was the Italian! Service in the restaurants was good, considering we had six adults. I did notice all the restaurants had seating for six or more guests, which is a plus for groups.
Xhale Club guests get a la carte breakfast on the rooftop at Silk City. It’s an Asian restaurant for dinner. This was a delicious breakfast!
They have a restaurant called Fish Nets, which is funny because it doesn’t have much fish on the dinner menu. I did have one of the best steaks I’ve had in Mexico and this appetizer was delicious. Yes, that’s melted provolone cheese in a skillet and yes it was very good!
For lunch there is a grill by the ground level pool, the Xcelerate pool, the buffet is open and Xhale Club guests have an outdoor restaurant on the roof. One thing I noticed that is different from Secrets is that you can’t order food poolside and eat in your lounge chair or cabana. It may not be a deal breaker for most people, but I usually like having that option.
A Few Highlights
- Different pools for each personality
- Nightlife on property
- Rooftop pool with Xhale Club upgrade
- Seven restaurants plus lunch options by each pool
- Smaller hotel with beautiful ocean views
- All the pools have a swim-up bar
We celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary with tequila shots! Thank goodness the alcohol ban was lifted for our last day!
