Best Swim-Out Rooms in Cancun and Riviera Maya: Review from a Travel Agent

If you’re a client or have been following my blog, you probably know that swim-out rooms are my favorite! So, I’ve compiled a list of the best swim-out rooms in Cancun and Riviera Maya. These are my top picks and a swim-out bucket list for the future. While all the resorts on this list are adults-only, there are also fantastic family-friendly options with swim-out rooms too!

Here’s my list of the Best Swim-Out Rooms in Cancun and Riviera Maya.

Barcelo Maya Riviera, swim-out room

This room was one of the best; it was big and bright and had lots of storage! The swim-out rooms are beautiful and have a built-in lounger in the pool for each room. They do not offer bar service at the swim-out rooms, so that’s a slight negative in the overall picture.

Premium Level is highly recommended. Barcelo hotels limit the number of sit-down restaurants you can eat at for dinner unless you have the Premium level. That means on a 5-night stay, you eat buffet for dinner 3 times without it.

The swim out here is only available in Premium. We had a great location right behind one of the bars.

Valentin Imperial Maya, walkout swim-up room

Valentin Imperial Maya swim-out rooms are located in the Golden building. They are not directly connected to the pool from the patio swim-out rooms. There’s a patio, a grassy area with 2 lounge chairs, and then the pool. It’s a great room and we loved it, but a little different than some hotels that have direct pool access from your patio. We have stayed at Valentin twice. Here is the review of the swim-out room, and here’s the oceanfront room.

Haven Riviera Cancun, ocean front swim-out room

Haven Riviera Cancun was amazing. All of their ground-floor rooms are swim-out. They have a garden view, a partial ocean view, and the oceanfront. We opted for an oceanfront swim-out, and it was a great view. They do have wait staff that come around to the swim-out rooms. Major plus.

The room was set up nicely. I liked the separate closet in the bathroom with a full-length mirror, but I wish there were more drawers. Staying 6 nights means a lot of clothes, and we just had them piled up on the shelves in the closet. I think Barcelo Maya Riviera had the best storage.

The vanity area in the bathroom was perfect, though. The drawer for makeup storage was a great idea!

El Dorado Casitas Royale, swim-out room

We have stayed at El Dorado Casitas Royale twice, and it’s overall our favorite resort. Everything about it. The Casitas section offers a swim-out, private pool (upper floor), and a private pool swim-out. We opted for the private pool swim-out on the ground floor. It was perfect, with a private plunge pool and stairs leading to the lazy river. The lazy river takes you straight to the main pool and swim-up bar. The ground floor room categories do have waiter service in the room.

El Dorado Maroma, private pool room

El Dorado Maroma has swim-out and private pool options. When we stayed here in 2019, the swim-out was sold out, so we booked the private pool. It was on the 3rd floor. If you want more privacy, it’s a great option!

Our room was on the 3rd floor. This hotel does not have elevators in this section, which was a little rough at the end of the day. The room was beautiful, and we could just barely see the ocean through the palm trees off our balcony. There was a pool right below us, very convenient.

Bucket list of Swim-Out Rooms I want to experience!

In no particular order:

  • Hyatt Zilara Cancun (it used to be the Royal Cancun). This hotel is one of the few in Cancun that has a swim-out room.
  • Secrets Moxche Playa del Carmen. This one is a private pool, and we are staying here in December 2023. (Updated)You can find the full review of Secrets Moxche here.
  • Atelier Playa Mujeres. The Inspira swim-out ocean view looks amazing. This hotel gets great reviews, it’s 16 and up, so it’s not a true adult-only, but no little kids.
