Family-Friendly Resorts with Swim Out Rooms: Advice from a Travel Agent

Having a swim-out room with kids has many advantages. If your kids still nap, you have a place to hang out instead of having to sit in your room, trying to be very quiet. It’s a great place to have lunch, you can order room service and eat on your patio

I shared my list of favorite swim-out rooms at adult-only hotels, now here are some options for family-friendly resorts with swim-out rooms.

Family-Friendly Resorts with Swim Out Rooms: Advice from a Travel Agent

Having a swim-out room with kids has many advantages. If your kids still nap, you have a place to hang out instead of having to sit in your room, trying to be very quiet. It’s a great place to have lunch, you can order room service and eat on your patio. For safety reasons, some hotels may not allow young kids in a swim-out, keep that in mind. But I will verify the age requirements before booking.

Dreams Macao Beach, Dominican Republic

Dreams Macao Beach offers a Preferred Club Junior Suite swim-out, a Preferred Club Master Suite swim-out oceanfront, and a Preferred Club Presidential Suite swim-out oceanfront. Preferred Club rooms also have additional amenities including an adults-only pool, a family pool section, personalized check-in and check-out, and a dedicated beach area.

This hotel also made the list of family-friendly resorts with a water park.

Planet Hollywood Cancun, Mexico

Planet Hollywood Cancun is a themed hotel located in Costa Mujeres, about 40 minutes North of Cancun. It has a really nice beach, a lazy river, and mini-golf. I categorize this hotel as more moderate with a lot of great amenities, but some have a fee. I strongly recommend Star Class if booking this hotel to help elevate your stay.

The Junior suite swim-out comes with and without Star Class. They also offer a Star Class Director’s Suite one-bedroom swim-out for more space. The upgrade to Star Class has additional amenities including private pool and beach areas, preferred room location, and butler service.

Royalton Riviera Cancun, Mexico

The Royalton Riviera Cancun is about 20 minutes south of the airport. They offer a Luxury Junior Suite swim-out and a luxury Presidential one-bedroom suite swim-out, both rooms are also available with a Diamond Club upgrade. The upgrade has additional amenities like butler service, preferred room location, 24-hour room service, and a Diamond Club pool. This hotel is currently (late 2023) undergoing renovations to the restaurants and guest rooms, slated to be finished summer of 2024.

The Royalton is a great choice for families with kids of all ages. This resort would fall in the budget category for pricing.

Paradisus Playa del Carmen

The Paradisus offers a swim-up in the family section, called Family Concierge. They offer Junior Suite swim-up and Suite swim-up. The Suite will have a separate living area, which makes napping and early bedtimes easier. Family Concierge also has other amenities such as concierge service and an extra restaurant.

Paradisus Playa del Carmen

Dreams Onyx, Dominican Republic

Dreams Onyx has a Junior Suite swim-up available with a king or two double beds. It’s also available with a Preferred Club upgrade with additional amenities. This hotel has a water park, a lazy river, and lots of family activities including theme parties and kids clubs. It’s a great option for all ages.
