This post is long overdue. We stayed at the amazing El Dorado Maroma in August 2019. It has been a whirlwind year and let’s just say it’s time to catch up! We love the Karisma brand, we have stayed at several of their hotels.

First up we got to fly on the Dreamliner that American Airlines was using for this route. Those planes are awesome. It’s like business class without the extra price. Here’s a picture of me standing up in front of the seat and my head is not hitting the ceiling. Look at this space!

I had a TV with a remote and we were served alcohol. Obviously, pre-Covid travel.

On arrival at the Cancun airport, we were greeted by Lomas Travel. They are my favorite ground operator there and I use them whenever I can. We had a Lincoln Navigator for our private transfer to the hotel. It’s worth the upgrade.

Check-In

When we arrived at the El Dorado Maroma, we were handed a glass of champagne and a cold towel.

We got checked in but it was a little early to get into our room so we headed off to brunch. The service here is impeccable and they do not disappoint. Started off with a mimosa and French toast by the pool.

I had two of these!
Yes, that is cream cheese-stuffed French toast. It was really good!

We hit the beach and snagged a cabana for a few hours until our room was ready. The Maroma beach is beautiful. It has received awards and has been ranked among the best. There is some seaweed in some areas but I have seen that in Mexico and the Caribbean for the last few years. A lot depends on the weather.

Beach Cabana

Beautiful spot for a wedding or vow renewal!

Our room

We chose a private pool room on this trip. Our room was on the 3rd floor. This hotel does not have elevators in this section, that was a little rough at the end of the day.

The room was beautiful and we could just barely see the ocean through the palm trees off our balcony. There was a pool right below us, very convenient.

El Dorado hotels have outdoor showers and they are amazing (and private).

And here is our pool. The patio had chairs and a table as well. Our room was shaded quite a bit so the pool was cold at times.

Cabanas by the pool are my favorite thing!

The hotel

The two pools we hung out in both have a swim-up bar, and easy access to the beach. Maroma Beach is one of the best in the world – it’s gorgeous. There are lots of cabanas and lounge chairs as well.

I love to walk the property and beach early morning (not too early) but before breakfast and before too many people are out. It’s so peaceful. It’s a great time to explore the hotel and get some great pictures. The sun coming up on the ocean is hard to beat.

During our stay in August, the evenings were kind of quiet. There is a “club” with a bar, pool tables, and a stage for entertainment. Several evenings there was just a handful of guests in there. It could have been the time of year we went. I prefer quiet during the day but I always like music or entertainment in the evenings when on vacation. One night there was a fire show on the beach.

The food was delicious!

Weddings

The hotel has a chapel, as well as outdoor areas on the beach to get married or renew vows.

El Dorado Maroma also has a section called Palafitos, they are over-the-water bungalows and they are amazing! I got to tour them and trust me, it’s a much quicker flight to get to here than it is to get to Bora Bora.

I hope you enjoyed reading about this hotel, it’s one of our favorites.
