6 do’s and don’ts for runners

Running is different for everyone. We all have our reasons for running. I started running to lose the last few pounds, but I was also already committed to running a 5k with a friend. I fell in love with racing. I love it! I’m very goal oriented and just slightly competitive so racing works for me. I can push myself with each new race.

While it is a hobby for most of us, there’s a list of unspoken rules that most of us try to abide by. I asked readers and fellow bloggers to help me compile a list of things that runners do that drive them batty.

do's and don'ts

  • Spitting. This seems to be a big one. It happens, runners spit. But, try to make sure you aren’t spitting on someone near you.
  • Coming to a complete stop from running. If you need to stop (emergency aside) you should move over.  If you stop without warning, someone behind you is more likely to run right into you.
  • Heel clipping. Running so close to someone you catch their shoe with your foot. It’s apparently happening a lot and can trip the person.
  • Running beside someone and not allowing people to pass. This is especially important if you are on a narrow path or in a race. Make sure you pay attention to people trying to pass.
  • Playing music on speaker phone. Please wear head phones if you want to listen to music. (unless of course you have my playlist on your phone)
  • Don’t run a race you didn’t pay for. Don’t take free food or medals.

Thanks to my readers and Michelle at My Life is a Race for contributing!

What are you guilty of doing?

What are runners doing that drive you batty?

Did you workout today?
