Exactly 3 weeks from today I’ll be running the Metro PCS Dallas Marathon!
This week’s little cold spell has me thinking about race day weather. I tend to over dress for races and that is definitely not something I want to do for 26.2 miles. I am a planner and a little OCD about it. I know I can’t even begin to plan what I’ll wear race day until about 4-5 days out. I do however, have a few things in mind depending on the temperature.
My next thought goes to what to eat while racing. I do not use the Gu Gel stuff, it makes me gag. I use Honey Stingers chews and those are not small packages. I’m trying to figure out how to carry what I need on race day. I also tried the Advocare rehydrate gels today. They fit perfect in my running belt and I really like those.
Training this week:
Sunday: Gym day, light weights, abs and stretching
Monday: Rest Day
Tuesday: Run 5 miles, 9:28 pace
Wednesday: Run 5 miles, 9:31 pace
Thursday: Run 5 miles, 9:07 pace
Friday: Gym day, stretching, abs and light weights
Saturday: Rest Day
Sunday (today): 20 miles!! 9:40 pace, we walked just a few times and stopped at mile 10 for about 5 minutes to refill bottles.
Yesterday Ally had her first cross country meet. The competition there is fierce!
The weather for my 20 miler today was warm, 74 degrees with 86% humidity. We were blessed with some wind and at times the breeze was cool. We ran the trails at the lake since it’s mostly flat.
It looks like a cool, fall day but it’s not.
Some of the views on our run today. There are some gorgeous houses around that lake.
I’m not gonna lie. This was tough. First 10 went pretty good, except for the pouring sweat. Second loop, about mile 15 I started to really feel it. My feet mostly, just tired. Got a little boost at mile 18, but it didn’t last long.
Oddly enough, at about mile 19.8 I felt like I could have kept going past 20. I’m hoping that’s a good sign for race day.
Me and Jennifer, my training partner. It’s her first marathon too!
After we ran, we hit Torchy’s for breakfast. I came home and took an ice bath. Those are getting easier but still not enjoyable. Then I cleaned bathrooms, did laundry and took a short nap.
I think what woke me up from my nap was my growling stomach, so I made a smoothie.
It was a nice weekend, a little busy, but that’s life for now.
Tonight I made Shepherd’s Pie for Monday’s dinner and Quiche muffins for breakfast for a few days.
Do you food prep?
Anyone racing or training this weekend?
What’d you do for fun?
