Ally and I share milestone birthdays, both in October. Luckily this year isn’t one for me. I was 25 when she was born. So, the year I turned 30 she turned 5. 35, 10…catch the pattern. I’m not looking forward to 15 and 40. She’s such a blessing to us even though she has been pushing her limits lately. I guess all 12 year old kids do that. (I don’t think I did…haha!)
She will not be happy about this one, but it’s my job as mom to embarrass her a little, right??
On her birthday weekend we went bowling and to dinner, but her birthday party wasn’t until this past weekend.
I couldn’t even begin to think about how to entertain 11 and 12 year old girls. Luckily, I didn’t have to.
Have you seen this new craze?
She already had a few bands, we bought more for the party and then one of her presents was more bands plus this loom. The girls literally sat for hours making these bracelets. It’s genius.
We had pizza and wings (no beer). They played Just Dance and Twister for a little while. Not even sure when they went to bed.
We bought gourmet white chocolate popcorn, purple M&M’s, purple old fashion suckers and pixie sticks for the goody bags.
We made drinking glasses out of mason jars. Thanks to the hubby for drilling the holes in the lids.
Amazingly all 5 of them were up and dressed for church by 9 Sunday morning. I really wish I had remembered to take a group picture. They are really good kids!
My girl is growing up fast. She’s a good kid and I wouldn’t trade her for anything. I just wish I could stop time.
Somehow I am a year older too. When I think about the last few years, I’m amazed at how different I am, for the better. Yes, I’m tired from marathon training. But overall my health is better, my attitude is (mostly) better. It’s not all sunshine and roses, but I have a good life. I have a lot to be thankful for.
How do you handle milestone birthdays?
Any great theme parties you’ve thrown?
